yes the polar bear you have as a avatar reminds me of myself some days. lol

Its so easy just to sit down and relax on your free time, watch TV, and eat chips.

I have to find new activity's, that require more movement. Maybe ill get a WII lol

Luv that polar bear!

Get a puppy! My new guy is keeping me moving! He's also from the SPCA...so I 'rescued' him and he's helping me stay in shape. Win-win!

it was really hard just to cut down a little, because my blood sugar kept dropping. id get the shakes and have to eat fast which normally ment fast food. the biggest success ive had is i was able to stop drinking sugar based sodas, now im finally used to diet sodas and i find i enjoy water more.

any suggestions on how to eat when your out and still keep the calories down would be awesome!
Get rid of that fast food for sure!!!! That'll be huge!

As far as how to eat when you're out....do your homework. Many restaurants, especially chain restaurants, have nutritional values posted for all their food! One of the things I do is see what there is, and pick out what I'm going to eat before I get there. That way I'm not influenced/swayed by what others get, and I know what I'm getting out of my meal. I search for items that are high in protein and high quality carbs, and void of low calorie carbs. This helps me stay fuller longer after I eat (and of course fried/bad fats should be avoided too).

Now, drink a ton of water through the day! That will help you feel fuller longer, and have a glass of water before you eat. That will fill you up before you get started. During your meal don't eat too fast! There's a lag time between when you are actually full and when your brain gets the signal. Eating slow helps prevent you from getting overfull before your brain knows you're full! Chew your bites thoroughly! When you're done pop in a piece of sugarless chewing gum! For me it helps simulate the act of eating.

Great link and do a little search on our site on "high intensity interval training," a.k.a. HIIT. We have a video posted up on it, and covers some benefits of a similar principal from what you posted.

On the Wii, look for the Wii Fit system....not just the standard Wii.

Awesome,

The pick of you on the horse, Do you have a horse? or were you just riding that day.
you have a "nice country girl look to you"

We used to have one when i was a kid, we lived in a old house in denton Texas, we had a horse, some chickens, A turkey that my dad killed for thanksgiving that day still haunts me LOL this may sound funny but we were all attached to that ole dumb turkey. Lets just say no one ate turkey much that year and we moved soon after. LOL

My parents wanted to try the farming life there for awhile and decided it wasn't for them. LOL

I still eat at fast-food places...but I have a set meal that I order at each...so no guessing, no choices to be made, makes it easy to go out and stay within the calorie allotment...

Ex.

McD's: Mediterranean Salad with Grilled Chicken, Small fries. Diet pop, water, or nothing.

Tim Hortons': 2 Chicken Snack Wrappers - NO sauce...usually with a coffee...

Unhappy Learning to blog? my Body is changing!

Ok Ive posted on the introduction page, I think i was doing it wrong, it looks like the blog should be here I'm a blogging newbie

i think most of you have seen my intro if not just go here

Yesterday we celebrated my sisters birthday! and went out to eat at one of my favorite restaurants

"In Texas everything is bigger"

and that includes the food. I ordered my usual favorite chicken fried steak platter.

the chicken fried steak covers the entire plate! then the veggies are served on the side. I thought i would splurge a little, and being the tuff guy (i thought) i ate it all and the French fries and black eyed peas.

But guess what???

I was SICK! Ive been eating so much more Non greasy foods and salads that it put my gut into shock.

the food wasn't spoiled or anything i just don't want the fatty foods like that anymore. Is that possible?

Ive eaten that same dinner countless times and i never got the blaahhhhh feeling Ive got.

also i feel so run down today, I'm going to have to push myself to the gym i may need some motivational help from you guys

my stomach feels like i swallowed a brick, i took a prilosec (heartburn medicine, and chewed 4 rolaids.

its 6am and Ive been up since 4am.

Never again! I will never again "drink the Kool-aid"

Hi Bob, personally, the way i look at loosing weight is to first loose the old habits that made us fat, and that means staying away from temptation of any kind until your desire for your old way of eating subsides enough for you not to be tempted. This sounds quite harsh Bob but ive heard all about you Texans and from what ive heard about the size of your family`s and friends theres pretty much a party of some kind every week of the year lol. I suppose it depends on how much you want it Bob, how much do you really want to change?
Because youve changed yur eating habits and been eating healthier, thats why you were sick after such a fatty meal, that should be warning enough that your body is changing, and can no longer tolerate that kind of food. you are doing reall well Bob, stay away from the temptations that could make you go off track. Bob have you done the metabolic typing to determine your metabolic type?(Protein type, Carb type or mixed) if not, pm me and i will show you how. Dave

Re: new guy/ looking to learn from others and support

Hi Bob, No we don't have horses......that picture was from when we were on vaca in Las Vegas and got away for the day to do a nice ride.

Awwwww that is horrible about the turkey.....ya I get attached to animals rather quickly. Don't think I'd do well with raising my food.

Oh No....not the chicken fried steak. That was one of my favorite bad meals to eat.......and yes it is so bad for us. Anything fried is something we should stay away from. Nice that your body rejected it by not feeling well........a good hint to stay away from it.

I agree with Woppa....I'm sure you will have many outings, birthdays, parties and such. You need to preplan, if you know what place you are going to (pull up the menu online and choose your meal that way. Then when you get to restaurant.....Do not even look at menu to be tempted) also if they don't have online menu then drive to the restaurant and walk in and ask to see a menu......choose then. Don't be afraid to ask waitress for alternatives (instead of rice ask for a couple servings of extra veggies) or tell them to hold sauce on something, get dressings on side and just dip lightly instead of pouring all over salad. Also a good thing to do is eat a banana or a few cups of veggies, salad before you go out to eat. Sometimes when we are starving we make bad choices.

The best thing for us is to have a plan of attack.......before we get in that situation.

Hope you feel better...and yes, stay away from that kool aid!

im working on the calories little by little ive always been a big eater, even when i was young and healthy.

I used to smoke ciggerettes, i thought that was the hardest thing to quit, ive found fast food is harder.[/QUOTE]

I couldn't agree more! I had to take my MIL to a specialist in another town so I went in my walking clothes and while she was at her appointment I took my walk. I ended up walking by the back of a restaurant and I could smell that greasy fried smell coming out of their vents. I have to admit I drooled. But, I didn't go in, I just kept walking and told my body to feast on itself! I've got some pretty good fat and grease built up around my belly already!

As for the big meal size, to make it easier to transition, serve yourself smaller portions of the denser calorie foods and large portions of salads and raw vegies. Make sure you chew every bite at least 25 times. Believe me, after you've properly chewed your way through a couple of cups of salad greens and vegies, your brain will think you have been on the binge of all binges! Yeah, it's a mind trick, but it works!

Good Luck!

P.S. Tell your family to STOP enabling you! Forbid each and every one of them to bring you anymore fast food. Make them swear to uphold their promise, no matter how much you may plead or beg on a weak day. Ask them to bring over a bag of mini carrots or apples instead!
miranda this is a really good post.
