Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Thanks Rue!

Okay, I'm back and I didn't melt. I walked my 60 mins/3+ miles and then did 30 mins of a Leslie Sansone Workout. Drank 1 1/2lbs worth of water, (I know, I weighed myself!) showered, and am now eating a black bean burrito, some carrots with a tiny dab of dip, and one of Chrissy's Pink Lady apples (it's really good!).

I'm on track to have a good day even if my DH insists on going out to dinner (I'm going to order a salad without anything nasty on it - croutons, bacon, cheese, etc.- bring salad dressing from home, and get a plain baked potato with a side of salsa.) and try not to bitch about having to pay over $8.00 for something I could have made at home for under a buck!

Gonna finish lunch now and go to work for a couple of hours. I'm hoping I get home in time and it stops raining long enough for me to walk a mile before dinner.

Stay Strong!
Miranda

Drum Roll Please . . . and today's weigh in: 234.8! I lost 3.2 lbs this week! Okay, okay, I will admit to eating even more fiber over the past two days (as if I wasn't getting enough already) and I also exercised like an absolute fiend but in adding up my calorie differential at sparks, I thought I was heading into a 2.2 lb loss. Something worked! Gonna go do a happy dance! Have a great day all!

Wow Miranda 60mins is great, go girl! Leslie sansone is great. I started my workouts using her dvd last year. I like the idea of a burrito for lunch I actually thought that it was too heavy for lunch so i make soup for lunch but I'm seeing a lot of people having wraps instead so I may copy that (hope that's okay). Well keep up the great work.

Woo Hooooo Miranda, Congrats on your new low....I'm so happy for you. Are you exercising everyday?

Hehehe......I had a baked potatoe with salsa yesterday too *YUMMM* although I couldn't help myself I had to put light sour cream on it. I should get used to them without the sour cream though.

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Thanks you guys! I've got to say that forcing myself to log in here first thing every morning really helps get my day started in the proper mindset.

Ana - Yep, black bean burritos are nice and heavy which is why I love them for lunch. I really like to eat at least 2 "substantial" meals a day. Even on days when I'm feeling squeezed for calories I can still have a burrito. 1/3 cup of black beans is only 77 cals and then you wrap it up in an 80 cal high fiber whole wheat tortilla , add a piece of fruit and/or a side green salad and you're good to go! I'll get my black bean chili recipe posted in the recipe thread over the next day or so!

Chrissy - I think I would starve if I couldn't eat baked potatoes! They are so filling and comforting at the same time, not to mention highly nutritious! I also will use fat free sour cream on mine sometimes. It's about the only dairy I'm eating these days. (Don't worry, my doctor has me on calcium tabs!)

Okay, today was good. Originally I was going to use Sundays as my "free" day - you know, no exercising and an extra 300 calories. But, my body seems to be functioning just fine on 1,200 or so per day so I'm going to keep it there, at least this week. I also went ahead and exercised today since I had to skip last Thursday. And depending on how things go, I may end up skipping a weekday this week as well. By exercising today, I don't have to feel like I need to "catch-up" like I did this week.

Okay, today I've logged in 1,069 cals which means I have room for some warm, filling oatmeal later on tonight! This will put me at 1,219 cals (61 protein, 20 fat).

Breakfast - protein bar
Lunch - salad topped with sardines, tomato, diced red pepper, and spritz salad dressing, grapes
Afternoon snack - vegies, 3 crackers, grapes, hummus (Super Bowl munchies)
Dinner - Gardenburger on thin bun, salad with carrots & tomato
PM Snack - oatmeal

I also walked 5 miles this morning - had to return a video so I walked it there - 2 1/2 miles away (I checked the mileage last night when we went to rent it!)
All in all, a very good day. Our neighbor brought over some warm chocolate chip cookies during the football game. Luckily, I was upstairs logging in my food at sparks! So, I managed to avoid that landmine!

Have a good night!

Hey Miranda,

I found your blog and was reading up on it. you have been doing really really well!

I like logging on in the morning to, and whenever else i can. It does help keep you going.

That walking is gonna take them pounds off with a vengeance!

Ive been thinking allot lately about how we seem to have energizer bunny energy when were kids and through our teen years, but the older we get it just slips away.

then i started thinking about this story i read on the oldest working man in America.

he was 108 years old and still driving a fork lift! when asked what was his secret to longevity He said "i will never slow down, ill just keep on moving"

So lets pretend we never stopped playing outside everyday. never stopped riding our bikes, never stopped walking way more then we drive, were always told to eat our vegetables or no dessert LOL, never stopped racing your best friend, never stopped working in the yard because it was a chore, never lost that competitors edge every kid has, the list goes on and on......

if we never "stopped moving, or slow down" how much better would our health be today?

I think we would not be much different then when we were young and full of energy.

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Thanks Fluffy and Bob! Yep, here I am logging in my morning totals even though it's almost lunchtime! Busy, busy morning - but what else do you expect from a Monday?!?

Okay, weight went down to 234.4 which makes me a very happy camper and BP is 133/73. Totally within normal limits, especially since I have been running around like a crazy person all morning. I'm in my walking gear and I'm about to go walk the canal. I'm going to go at least 3 miles this morning, maybe a bit more if my body is feeling okay.

I'm definitely going to be saving enough calories so I can have oatmeal at the end of the day. It seems like whenever I eat oatmeal, I sleep like a baby, not to mention the benefit of what oatmeal does to your digestive tract while you're sleeping! Let's just say that when I weigh in the morning, I'm definitely in empty mode. Yeah, okay, TMI!

Have a great day!

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Oh yeah, Oatmeal. It's great going to bed with a happy tummy!

Which is definitely what I'll be doing tonight, even without the oatmeal! I swear, I'm at 1,168 calories but I feel like I've eaten like a King today! Protein is at 91, fat at 17. Sodium is 1241 which is a bit higher than I usually am but I don't care! I'll just weigh a little more tomorrow! I'll pee it off on Thursday!

I have an extreme fondness for deli sandwiches, and when I say extreme, I mean EXTREME. Well, today I found some turkey lunchmeat that only has 220mg of sodium per 30 cal. slice. That's 10%. Yeah a little higher than I would like but totally within bounds if I eat sparingly. So, today on my 40cal/slice wheat bread I spread some chipotle mustard, then topped it with TWO slices of the lunch meat (and it's thick and substantial), tomato, red onions, lettuce, and sprouts. Splurged and threw on a top piece of bread (I usually eat just one) and then finished it off with a pile of sliced fresh peppers, celery, carrots, one tbsp of garlic hummus and ended with 1/2 cup of red and green grapes for dessert. It was SO good to eat a turkey sandwich again!

Then, for dinner I made the yummiest salad and I gorged myself like a pig! I admit it. 3 cups shredded lettuce, 1.5 cups fresh chopped asparagus, 1 diced tomato, 1 diced hard boiled egg, almost one 3.5 oz. albacore tuna (kitty got some), some chopped green onions, and 6 glorious tablespoons of fat free sourcream that I doctored up with cilantro, garlic, onion powder, and various other herbs. Mixed it all up and savored every last stinking bite. It was so good and now I am so stuffed but I needed a little something sweet - chocolate preferrably - so I am topping off the night with a 60 cal decaf mocha. It is quite yummy too!

Anyway, I feel really satisfied today which seems sort of foreign. I mean, I'm on a DIEt, right? I've got to say that I'm not feeling the least bit deprived. It's quite satisfying!

Anyway, I've got to run and get the kiddo off to the shower and then bed, after I pry the phone out of her hands!

Oh yeah:
Water - great
Green Tea - 5 cups
Exercise - walked 4 miles, did 30 mins of an exercise dvd.

Good Day! Hope yours was too!
Miranda

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Just remember oatmeal is calorie dense ( 150 cals per 1/2 cup dry) but it does more than double in volume and it's super filling! It's also completely salt free if you stay away from the instant!

Okay, another crazy day. I probably won't be back on 'til this evening so here's my morning accountability:
Weight: 234.6 (delicious salt )
BP: 121/69
I've got 30oz of water in me as well as my supplements. Time to get the kiddo to school and walk through the rain storm - shudder. I'll probably stick with my minimum 3 miles. It looks pretty uninviting out there!

Have a good day and stay strong! We WILL do this!
Miranda

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Can you use an umbrella when it rains? We can't...too windy for the most part. I actually use a sun umbrella more than a rain one - but with the wind that's iffy too. If we have a downpour here and I need to be out in it...I have a heavy-duty raincoat.

I remember being in Vancouver and in Germany and using an umbrella...it was so much fun! LOL...I'm glad I don't live in a damp environment (I also remember the damp coldness when crawling into bed)...but I feel umbrella-deprived.

Hi Miranda, your salad sounds so yummy.....I'm going to have to try that one (like the idea of the sour cream with herbs/spices). Do you grill or steam your asparagus beforehand? Never thought of adding them and I love asparagus.

Hope you have a great day as well.

Re: Miranda's Musings, Mutterings, and Milestones

Rue - It was pouring so hard this morning that a walk was impossible. Visibility was bad and the streets were flooded because it was raining too hard and too fast. An umbrella would only have been useful as a floatation device!

Chrissy - yes, I steam my asparagus first but grilling sounds yummy! I might have to try that. I really love cold asparagus on my salads. It somehow makes a salad seem a meal if I have a few special extras topping the lettuce.

Today was good.

I exercised my a$$ off. Walking was impossible this morning so I broke out a Leslie Sansone dvd I hadn't tried yet. It was called Fast & Firm - 4 Really Big Miles. OMG. I did all 4 plus the warm-up and stretch. I was soaked with sweat when I finished. It was pretty intense for me. Then, two hours later I was able to walk 60mins/3 miles in between downpours. So, I am sore, really sore right now!

Water - almost done. Will finish up at dinner

Calories - if I eat my oatmeal around 9:00 tonight (and I probably will because I'm eating dinner at 6:00), then I will finish up with 1,302 cals today. It's a bit over but I'm not going to sweat it because of the 2 hours of exercise I did this morning. Protein is at 102 gms, fat at 11gms. Salt is high because I snuck in a turkey sandwich! I'm not too worried, it's still 1,100 points lower than the RDA. Have a good night all! Not sure I'll be able to read everyone's results today, but I'll catch up tomorrow!

Stay Strong!
