| Kootch's Journey Here goes. I have 100lbs to lose. And everything to gain.
I'm a big husky guy. I've always been husky, although was very athletic until I was 20 or so (I'm 39 now).
My dad died of heart failure (after several bypass surgeries over the years), and most of my aunts and uncles have had major heart problems.
5 years ago I was having chest pains and went to a cardiologist. At the time, the chest pain was from anxiety and stress. But the cardiologist promised me he'd need to see me in 5 yrs or so if I didn't change my lifestyle and lose weight. As of yesterday, I had did nothing. Today is different, the start of a new lifestyle.
I'll be doing a form of Body-for-Life. 5-6 small meals a day at about 300 cals per meal. Aiming for 1800 cals/daily. I'll aim for each meal to be an equal portion of lean and clean carbs and protein.
I'll introduce cardio very shortly and aim for weights in a month or so.
I've rambled on enough - I'll set a goal of writing something here every few days as a way of keeping check on how I'm doing.
Cheers!

| Re: Kootch's Journey From what you've outlined it sounds like you have a good plan. The grazing approach I have found often works best to help subdue the urge to snack as well as the urge to go all out at mealtimes.
Wishing you strength and good luck with it

Cheers! | That's one of the reasons I started getting my butt in shape was because of my family history. Wise move on your part.
At 1800 calories a day you should be right on track to loose about a pound and a half a week if you're not exercising. Solid cardio could up that to two a week which would be great.
I like your meal plan. Fantastic.

| Re: Kootch's Journey Kootch--great start...I hope you can stick to it. If it helps...I find that if I can't eat the foods I love (at all), I feel so deprived.
I am not following such a strict regimen of meals. I simply cut my intake in half, cut out sugar, drank more water, and exercised (which I haven't done in years). I am making slow (a pound a week) progress, but feel very good about how things are going. I've developed healthy eating habits this way.
I am also taking supplements (esp calcium) to stay healthy, since I'm not used to the exercise regimen.
