I would need to know the following:
age
sex (f)
weight
height
how much exercise/activity you plan on getting in a given week
how much weight you want to lose and by when.

age 48 calendar years but feel much younger
height 5'2" but taller in my heels.....
weight 200 ugly pounds packaged tightly
exercise : I would like to get at least 1/2 hr every day
I would like to lose 75-77 lbs by my birthday May 31st when I will be 49
Can it be done? I may have to extend my date to lose it forever. Realistically I guess it would take about a year.

Are you also a tempted late-night eater? I think one of the things that helped me the most when I first started my healthy regime was I wouldn't eat after 9PM, only drink water
Have you bought a daily journal to keep track of your calories?

Can it be done? I may have to extend my date to lose it forever. Realistically I guess it would take about a year. | That is a VERY aggressive goal and would require you to lose about 2.5lbs a week......I'll throw up some calcs........OK....
With 1/2 hour of exercise a day, your body is going to burn roughly 2175 calories a day.
If you wanted to lose 2lbs a week, you'd have to eat 1175 calories a day on average. In order to lose 2.5lbs a week like you're hoping to do, you'd have to eat 925 calories a day, and that my dear is just not enough.
I think for now to be safe shoot for 1175 calories a day, and if you exercise as you say you will (1/2 hour a day) you will lose roughly 2lbs a week.
That will get you close to your goal.....at least a 60lb weight loss by your next birthday.
The only "safe" way IMO to lose that 2.5lbs per week to hit your goal would be to add more than 1/2 hour of exercise to your routine. If you did a full hour of hard exercise a day 5-6 days a week I think you could pull it off.

| Re: Guin's Weight Loss Journal Ob,
Thanks for your calcuations !! You are the mistro of the calorie equations
I am sure I can pull off 1 hr of hard exercise at least 5 days a week... I need to make "training" a priority. I can run on my treadmill while the boys are downstairs uploading music and then do an aerobic tape. I have plenty to chose from. Kathy Smith is my favorite and I know her routines by heart. I should do the speed bag for my upper arms. We also have a universal in the basement. It sounds so good in paper. If I could only get a work out buddy it would be just that much more fun and easy.
Cant count on my husband since he is out of town almost 5 days a week for his job.
Even 60 lbs by my birthday would be awesome !!!

I think you can do 60lbs no problem. I you may consider whether or not you think you can do all of this at once cold turkey.....some people find it's easier to ease into it.....for example to start off with say 1700 calories and half an hour of exercise etc. Whatever you think you can handle. If you can handle the full monte all at once then by all means, give that a shot!
At some point in time when you've mastered the calorie intake we should revisit what those 1175 calories a day on average are comprised of....how much of it is protein vs. carbs vs. fat.
That comes in our weight loss 201 class.

Have you bought a daily journal to keep track of your calories? | I am proud to say that when i got home from work last night at 11:30 pm I did not eat. I did get on line to see if anyone was online. I think I will be one who gets on line early or late.
Hubby comes home from AR tonight. I am at work now. I may not get on later tonight unless he has a bunch of computer stuff to do. He travels quite a bit for his job.
I have plenty of journals for eating. Guess I should discipline myself to use them consistantly.
Thanks for the help. Maybe late at night we can talk on line sometime instead of eat.
Cheers
Dont you just have fun with these smileys

| Re: Guin's Weight Loss Journal Hello !!
I am back from our family vacation in FL. We spent a week at Panama City Beach FL. The weather was terrific and the city streets were quiet. It was nice to sit back and relax. I spent a lot of time looking for shells and came back with quite a collection.
I did not remember to bring my bathing suit. I ended up getting one of those Hawaiian types of colorful dresses and wore that in the Gulf.
My husband said I was really hard on myself that week and put myself down a lot. I really didnt think so, but maybe I am not aware of it. I do know that the resort had a whole lot of mirrors and I really dont like looking in the mirror at myself. I just cant face the image of me being fat, obese.
Why is that so hard for some people and other people it doesnt bother at all?

I'm not a huge fan of mirrors either, but just remember now that you're on your way to being healthy, everyone has to start somewhere.
I agree with OD that it's worse to be happy with being unhealthy. I used to just kind of bite the bullet and say that I'd never loose the weight, but I was never happy about it. I think it just goes to show that deep down I was willing to make the change.

It has been busy for me. My work schedule changed to working 4 ten hour days and my days off have been either catching up on my sleep, housework and playing taxi.
I have been trying the Somersize eating plan. A friend at work has lost 35 lbs so far with this plan. It is food combination eating. I can do this along with counting my calories.
Goals for December:
As a matter of fact I am going to get on the treadmill right now.
