| An anonymouse blog with no direction yet. I'm a regular blogger. I have several blogs that get read quite a bit. But what I needed was a place to be me. To talk about my weight without people knowing who I was. I just started this today, though it's a second revision. I have no idea where it will go, how dark it will be as I work out my issues... or how light it will be as I'm (hopefully) successful in my weight loss.
I do hope that maybe it might help others if I can ever get it to be what I want it to be.

Welcome VanishingDiva! You have sure dealt with a lot the last 10+years! I wish you the best in your cancer recovery; my other went through the exact same surgery for the exact same type of cancer. One thing I didn't see in your blog was what exactly are your weight loss goals? Do you have any specific ones and have you decided how you are going to go about your goals (diet, exercise, etc).

| Re: An anonymouse blog with no direction yet. My Goals
It's taken a few days, but I have posted an update with my goal and a lot of informational sites. For the purposes of a very public blog, I left the goal target off the page, but here I will post it.
I intend to lose in 18 months, 2 pounds per week maximum, total weight loss by my birthday 9-21-2008 should be close to 156 pounds. This will put me at 182. It's very close to my target weight which is somewhere around 155-165 for my height and bone structure.
Finding these simple things that allow tracking and goal viewing easily has really motivated me today. It also during my research, reminded me of a promise I made to myself last year that got lost along the way (majorly sidetracked) due to my cancer. I renew this promise today and give myself a little more time, thus providing a reasonable timeframe with an easy goal in mind. Did you know?
That 1 pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories? If someone can debunk this (if the information I've read is false) let me know. However, if it's right the tools I've listed in my blog today can help you find out just what you need to do in order to successfully lose 1 pound a week or more depending on how much you want or can detract from your caloric intake daily.
For example if your caloric intake to MAINTAIN your weight is 3000 calories per day, simply decreasing that by 500 daily (that's a latte folks, or a burger) will help you lose 1 pound a week. To lose two pounds drop 1000 calories, etc.
A combination of exercise and caloric reduction is best of course, for many reasons, but when you look at it from this perspective (or I should say when *I* saw it from this perspective) it doesn't seem so daunting a task.
Wish me luck!

You have it exactly correct with your calorie=fat ratio, and what you listed is the best way to lose weight. Exercise and calorie intake reduction to setup a calorie deficit. The other key to exercise is that while you are in a caloric deficit, you many lose muscle, and muscle helps burn calories. You don't want to lose that calorie burning ability, and exercise helps you maintain your muscle mass while you attempt to lose weight.
Best of luck with your continued weight loss!

| Re: An anonymouse blog with no direction yet. Yep, you have it right VanishingDiva! I think your goals are very reasonable and if you are persistent, you should meet them easily....Just curious, how do you plan on acheiving your 1000 calorie deficit each day to meet your target weight? Are you going to involve any exercise, and if so what type of activities?
Best of luck!

| Re: An anonymouse blog with no direction yet. Right now, I'm focusing on decreasing caloric intake, portion control, and unlocking whatever mental issues I have stemming from foods and overeating. Next weekend, I'm doing a "cleanse" by Isagenix to help jump start me again. Once I get past that I'll begin walking again. As of late my knees which never give me too much issue have been hurting.
I haven't ignored exercise completely, I walk farther when I park, I walk more frequently when I go on break even if just for 5 minutes. But I can't get on the treadmill and do 30 min like I used to. Even though I weigh less than when I was walking, my body is pretty tired lately. So I'm going to let it rest until I can walk consistently (even for 15 minutes, that's my minimum).
Just since watching carolic intake I've lost 3 pounds I know most of that is water weight, but even last night when just for kicks and giggles I weighed myself I hadn't gained any of that 3 pounds back. Woohoo!
My biggest problem is motivation. I'm a very emotional person. I feel deeply the emotions that I feel. If I get depressed (as I tend to do) because I feel unattractive or someone makes me feel unattractive, I figure "go ahead, no one cares anyway". So one of the mental "issues" i'm working on is combating that by reminding myself, "Ok so you think they don't care but you know what... YOU do". Self love can be a powerful tool. Let's hope I utilize it when I need it.
By the way, thanks for responding and talking in this thread. I haven't examined the rest of the boards yet, and I haven't posted to anyone else's blogs/threads. But I will.
I'm very big into motivating and inspiring. Many people express to me that those two things are things I do consistenly and very well. I just haven't had time to do more than make an occasional post. But it means so much to me that people have responded. Your kindness will be reciprocated

| Re: An anonymouse blog with no direction yet. Yes, that mental block is a big wall to break through! I'm doing just about the opposite than you -- lots of exercise, very little change in eating habits. I know that in time my eating habits will change and I'll really get to losing the weight big-time. But right now, I'm really happy just knowing that I'm getting healthier by exercising.
I actually have muscles in my arms, not just jiggles. I enjoy being able to do 275 ab exercises a day. I really like having the extra energy.
But I'm an emotional eater. And until I can get my mind around that and how to break that cycle I know I'll just be setting myself up to fail. I feel it will be soon -- maybe this summer. But I'm not going to let myself start this journey and not finish it. Not this time!
Good luck with your journey and blogging! I look forward to reading your posts.
LauraP
