A few questions....

Hey All,

I was just wondering how everyone else stays motivated....what do you do to get your bum off the chair and hit the gym? Or how do you refrain from eating what you shouldn't?
And how do you politely tell someone close to you that you no longer want them to treat you with food, especially when the only mean the best?

Thanks!
d

I stay motivated by looking at old pictures I taped on the refridgerator. Regarding exercise, I put pictures of my family members next to my old picture on the fridge, and it reminds me that if I don't get my act in gear, I won't be around to see my kids and their kids grow up. My other motivation is that as I see results, I get more and more energy, become happier with myself, and I look and feel better. That great feeling makes me want to keep going!

Hope this helps!

Re: A few questions....

My motivation is that I've lost family members early to obesity, and that's enough for me. I also don't want to have all these health complications down the road, and that too is motivation. I try to lump it into those things you have to do to stay healthy like go to the doctor and dentist, brush your teeth, shower, etc.

I find that if you make something routine, you become more used to it so it's not as tough to get motivated. It becomes natural.

I too have lost family members to heart attacks and strokes, and with obesity genetics in my family, I want to do whatever I can to keep myself from being another victim.

I also work hard to stay in shape and eat healthy in the hope that it rubs off on the people I care about, some of which are at high risk themselves.

I want to live a long time. I want to see my kids and their kids grow up. I want to see as much of the future as possible. I don't want to physically suffer or struggle as I get older. A few hours of work a week to add 20, 30, maybe even 40 years on my life, and make my life substantially easier. That's a fair trade off to me.

I like to put clothes that no longer fit that I want to fit into right in front of my face as a means to remind me to keep on fighting.

Re: A few questions....

Well I'm no expert on motivation, I lose mine all the time. But when I DO get motivated even if it's a brief time it's usually because I can see a result quickly. I know that I'm an instant gratification kind of gal. So seeing that 3 pounds or even 2 come off gives me something to go on the next day. I have not lost anyone in my family to obesity or related health issues stemming from that, but my motivation in other cases is just the feeling good that comes from taking care of ones self.

For me, the weight and my love of food is a combination of:
1. I love the taste of food
2. Habit
3. Lack of self esteem

If I can combat those through various techniques it will help me in the long run. It's a day to day effort

Hope this helps some.

Re: A few questions....

I stay motivated because I have a 12 year old that can pick me up and walk with me (I'm 230 he's 155). Dad needs to make sure he can still whoop him in wrestling when he get's to HS.
