Does the Atkins diet actually work? I have heard people swear that it works and then I have heard people say you need a balanced diet. Plus Mr. Atkins himself didn't seem to be in the best of shape. What do you guys think?

BTW this is my first post. I just joined yesterday.

Hi Brian and welcome to the site!

Atkins was not in the best of shape you are correct, then again neither is Dr. Phil or Richard Simmons at the moment and they have diet plans too . The Atkins diet may not work for everyone, but then again, if one diet did work for everyone, there wouldn't be 100 different types of diets on the market.

I personally have been eating an Atkins style diet for the last 9 years and it has worked great for me, especially in conjunction with weightlifting and cardiovascular exercise due to the reduction of carbs and protein emphasis. I make sure I get some complex carbohydrates into my diet as well, as they are needed for muscle growth and fat burning.

Has anyone here ever tried those microwavable atkins meals from the supermarket?

I've tried them and they are pretty good, but I actually prefer the South Beach diet meals and snacks by far....and their nutritional values are very similar to Atkins; they have a lot of dietary fiber and protein, and aren't bad on fat at all. Very low net carbs. I like the frozen pizzas and the chicken wraps (refrigerated section not frozen) the most . They aren't cheap, but I recommend finding a super Walmart where you get them for half the price of a supermarket.
