Believe me, I know what constipation is.
I was talking to the Pharmacist the other day and had tried Senikot but the associated intestinal pains were incredible. Senikot is going to MAKE YOU GO no matter what is blocked up in front of it.
He suggested something called MiraLAX. You have to take it once a day for a week or so to get balanced out. It is completely neutral regarding flavor. I put it in iced tea and noticed no taste.
It will store about 1.5% to 2% water weight in your system to soften and relieve the constipation.
When I used it, I plateaued and even gained about 2# that week.
The move to regularity was great and the additional weight you see is only water in the system. But that is how it works.
I stopped taking it and the constipation returned as expected.
I stopped to see if the MiraLAX was causing the water retention and sure enough is was. The next week I dropped the 6# I was stalled with.
Again, if you don't mind the "temporary" plateau, it is great stuff. |
Thanks for the advice. I should clarify that I was not looking at it to remove constipation.
The South Beach Diet mentioned that if you take some Metamucil 15 minutes before eating, you get a full feeling sooner, which reduces your need to eat. It just sticks to the spoon, the glass, and the throat if I don't drink it just after stirring. The stuff turns into jello sludge, not easy to drink. That was why I was shooting for the pill. All the benefit, without the mess.
