Re: Exercise Helps Prevent Falls in Elderly

Oh, I insist my 81-year-old MIL, who lives with us, go for short, slow walks with me daily. And if it's too hot or rainy outside, we walk around the house. She also has to walk upstairs to her room often, as she forgets things. I try to discourage my son from "helping" her do things, because she needs to move around. When she helps fold the laundry, she prefers to sit, but I make her stand and stretch.

Yeah, I'm the mean old daughter-in-law. But my dad lived to be 102 (just died in January 07), and he exercised every day. I know that it's good for you, so my husband and I started daily 30-minute walk routines in March, using a treadmill.
