OK....here we go Sorry for the delay

Healthy diabetic eating includes (in general)
  • Limiting sweets
  • Eating often
  • Being careful about when and how many carbohydrates you eat
  • Eating lots of whole-grain foods, fruits and vegetables
  • Eating less fat
  • Limiting your use of alcohol
It's permissible to eat candy if you have Low Blood Glucose (Hypoglycemia). The sugar in the candy helps balance your Glucose levels. In that case it's recommended you eat a little hard candy or sugar, amongst other things.

Even though it's not recommended (unless there's extenuating circumstances such as the ones I mention), it's OK to have some candy/sweets on special occasions.
I'm talking 1/2 cup ice cream, 1 small cupcake or muffin, 2 small cookies etc.

Also if you're sick and having problems holding down food (nausea), sugar isn't a bad idea, since you need to get something in your system to keep your glucose levels in check.
