i remember growing up and playing baseball decades upon decades ago our coach would put colored spots on the baseballs and we would have to identify the colored spots on the ball as it was thrown to us when we were hitting. coach believed that focusing on the color would also force us to identify the spin on the ball as it was being released and would also help hand eye coordination.

this seems similar in a way
