Trans Fat-free College Established
Boston (eCanadaNow) - Some schools and universities are taking a pro-active approach to the battle against trans fats which causes obesity and heart disease. San Diego State University will start a dining service which will have trans fat-free oil.
The decision has come out stating that the college students’ diet should be helped to an extent since they often have to eat whatever the dining room serves. Statring in the fall of 2006, meaning it has already kicked off, campus dining room will all use the new canola-based oil for frying.
This means that the unhealthy trans fat-filled food which they used to eat will be a bit healthier now as everything will not be fried in the same oil which has sparked bans and debates around the U.S., in Canada, and around the world.
The transition was an easy one as in three days after the deep fryers were cleaned and drained they began using the trans fat-free oil. It should be interesting to see if any other universities follow this pro-active approach.
