Boston (eCanadaNow) - 16 schools are joining to fight obesity in Malaysia.
The project is being started by the Health Ministry and hopes to change the diets in the schools to help kids lose weight. Four primary schools in each of teh four states of the country will start with the new plan.
The food will be fixed to an extent to give healthier choices for the kids. This means more foods with nutritiional value as well as low levels of sugar and fat.
This is one part of the ministry’s National Plan of Action for Nutrition, a 10-year-plan to fight obesity which ends in 2015 in Malaysia.
There are six milion overweight and obese adults and with the kids becoming obese this number is only going to skyrocket according to researchers and doctors. The Health Ministry has stated that the plan will expand to more schools and have food that has low levels of sugar fat, and salt.
