Obesity-fighting device proving successful

Obesity-fighting device proving successful

A South Australian woman is one of the first people to trial a new implantable device, designed to manage obesity.
Doctors at the Flinders Medical Centre say they have already had success with the device.
Sarah Polkinghorne, 32, claims to have lost 20 kilograms since she started the trial about a year ago.
The pacemaker-like machine is placed just under the abdominal skin, where it sends small electrical pulses to nerves blocking the signals that regulate parts of the digestive system active in processing food.
Professor of digestive surgery James Toouli says the system requires minimal surgery and recovery time.
Flinders Medical Centre is currently looking for more people to trial an improved version early this year.
