A South Australian woman is one of the first people to trial a new implantable device, which doctors claim they've already had success with.
32 year old Sarah Polkinghorne says she's lost 20 kilograms since starting on the trial about one year go.
The pacemaker-like machine is placed just under the abdominal skin, where it sends small electrical pulses to nerves blocking the signals that regulate parts of the digestive system active in processing food.
Professor of digestive surgery James Toouli says the system requires minimal surgery and recovery time.
