Bindi Irwin (Steve Irwin's daughter) joins the obesity battle

Bindi joins the obesity battle
REPORTER: Bryan Seymour
BROADCAST DATE: November 24, 2006

Bindi shows kids exercise can be fun. Bindi Irwin is a truly inspirational young Australian who continues to impress. Now she has launched a new campaign against childhood obesity.

There's a sense of sadness in watching Steve Irwin share a DVD screen with his daughter Bindi, his pride and joy.

But the eight-year-old has won praise from health experts with her new fitness video for kids.

Bindi is fighting for a new cause: combating childhood obesity.

Her DVD, called 'Bindi Kid Fitness', features Bindi and her mates "The Crocmen", demonstrating a series of aerobic-style dances, each one designed around various wild animal behaviour.

Her late Dad also helps out, cooking up some healthy snacks - and some kitchen disasters - while Bindi encourages kids to get off the couch with some healthy exercises.

Dietitian Nicole Senior applauded Bindi's DVD debut, saying kids were more likely to heed the Get Fit message from a role model like Bindi than from a well-meaning adult.
