HANNIBAL, MO -- The Surgeon General has announced that for the first time in a hundred years, children now have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.
That got the American Heart Association's Northeast Missouri Heart Walk committee working on plans to help promote fitness.
The organization will host the Mississippi River Run and Family Fitness Day on September twenty-third.
Runners will do a 5 K or 10 K across the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge.
Later kids can participate in a fun run and receive nutritional information.
Family health is an issue that's close to Marilyn Flynn's heart.
She is the co-chair of the 2006 Heart Walk.
"I got involved because we had an employee, 39 years old, at Continental Cement, who had a heart transplant. He works for us everyday and wears boots, a hardhat, and a tool belt every day and you'd never know that was anything wrong with him," Flynn says. "That's my inspiration."
To get involved in either event, you can contact Flynn at 573-221-1740.
