Australia examines Singapore's anti-obesity program

Barnett examines Singapore's anti-obesity program
Tasmanian Liberal Senator Guy Barnett is in Singapore to find out more about its successful child obesity program.

He says Australia has a lot to learn from Singapore, which is the only country in the world to successfully tackle the childhood obesity issue.

Senator Barnett will meet senior Singapore Government officials to discuss the school nutrition and physical activity program, called Trim and Fit.

"Their childhood obesity levels have gone down rather than up like Australia and most other countries around the world - developed countries at least," he said.

"So hopefully we can learn a few lessons from how they do it, they have quite a regulated approach to what people can eat in schools and the exercise regime they have in schools."
