How Can I Be As I Am?

I .. er.. my friend, yes not me directly.. heard from an elder that being overweight and even being scrawny or non-muscular for a guy is a sign of these things: - weakness of resolve - lack of control - overindulgence He compared it to how Europeans view Americans- overindulgent, ignorant, unworthy inheritors. Then he went on to say, that a person with right mind, will and being will not only be fit and maintain a 'buff' appearance, but that he will do it without exercising in the way we think of it. He said further that exercise for exercises' sake is an overindulgence, and that all exercising of the muscles should really be done throughout the normal day by continual isometric muscle tensioning. That going to a gym is merely appeasing a of lack of will power, the way of weak to accomplish something as rudimentary as breathing. And then the 'sage' went on to say much more, and rest assured his terms were less P.C., and his examples more charged and down to earth than I think would be appropriate for this forum. I.. that is my friend... thinks this opinionated sage is coming from the view that obviously we control our bodies and no-one else can; and that obviously we can tense up muscles and no-one can prevent that; and finally that obviously tensing up muscles leads to a buff body- with or without weights and a gym membership. I now ask you fine people of the internet, and please consider deeply for me. How can I rebuke my friend's sage, to help my friend save face, without making him yell-- 'I am not ignorant and lazy'? What argument can he use against this seemingly overwhelming evidence; can he even begin to call upon the Lord or some moral truth of the land? As you can see I have no one to turn to with these questions, otherwise I wouldn't post them on a public board. Perhaps if I had someone to turn to, I would fear asking them to save face. If you reply to complain about how I've told the story or the moral character of me or the sage or my friend, or my spelling, or my wording or grammar- let it be known that I was aware while writing this that such thoughts would go through your minds, internet-people, and that I am fully prepared to ignore them. Others-- Please help! Brandon, with the friend with the sage whose words are beyond my reasoning.
