If you go to a store specifically specialized in running (walking too) they can help you find the perfect pair of shoes for the type of foot you have. In Canada, we have the Running Room. They have a mini track in the store and will watch you walk to see what way your foot curves as you walk (inwards, outwards, etc.) and pick a shoe that minimizes that curve.

You can't just go by what someone on an internet forum recommends, as they may need different arch support than you. Some people have arches that curve inwards, some outwards, some don't curve at all. A specialist can help you figure out what your foots needs are.

The wrong type of shoe will cause you unnecessary pain and discomfort, and can lead to you rolling your ankle more often.
