A friend and I have the same weight and height, but my waist is 36 inches and my hips are 47 inches while her waist is 40 inches and her hips 42 inches.

Depending on which method is used, her BMI comes to two different values. Mine is roughly the same.

So which method (height to weight or waist to height) is more accurate?
Neither is terribly accurate; I'd ignore them both personally. Hydrostatic bodyfat testing is the only measure I'd trust. That and the mirror and my waistline.
