Hello Gang

Wanted to post a quick hello to the group. I'm 46yo male weighing in at just under 300lbs. I am 6" 0" in height and more on the inactive side (desk job by day, internet surfer at night). Most of my weight is in the belly (no surprise) but I can tell that I'm rounding out in the face, etc.

My screen name? I played rec hockey for several years (about 50 lbs) ago and we had this guy on the team everyone called Speedy Gonzales (after the cartoon character) due to his size, agility, and determination. And when they came up with my nickname; mine came in honor of cartoon Speedy's buddy "SlowPoke" based on my glacier-like speed on the rink.

Anyway, after an introduction to EKG's and a Stress Test last fall, I put my self on a 40 day regimen of walking 3 miles a night at the local outdoor track. I also cut down my consumption of Diet Pepsi from roughly 12 cans a day (that's all I drank) to about 3 or 4 now. I started to drink water (w/ Wylers flavors) in its place. During the time I was walking daily, I lost about 12-15 pounds. Wow! But, with winter setting in, it was too cold to walk (and sweat), so I stopped until the Spring. I'm about to start again, so I look forward to working those muscles and seeing results on the scale.

I guess my biggest problem is that I LOVE the taste of food. I can eat way past the point that I need for nourishment, just for the taste. I also tend to snack at my computer at night. So, my first action is to get up and start walking. The second (simultaneous) action is to shut my big mouth and stop eating so much!

I look forward to pushing myself based on the experiences and success story's that I read here. Sadly, I lost my Mom recently and she used to badger me about my weight and taking care of myself. I see what one funeral did to my Dad. There's no way in h*ll I'm going to let him mourn me! So, it's time for me to buck up and get going! Here I come 220 lbs!
Wish me luck!!!
