| Re: ill stop buying bread I don't know what bread recipes were like 2000 years ago, but they were undoubtedly healthier than what is available today since they would not have used either refined sugars or refined flours. These products only became available at the turn of the last century when steel rollers were developed during the industrial revolution. I can tell you that refined sugars and flours are not only linked to obesity but to every major degenerative disease including coronary artery (heart) disease. Unfortunately, that's not to say that whole grain breads are actually good for you. This is particularly true for the store-bought brands msince the "whole grain" flour they use is so finely ground that it causes as much insulin secretion as white bread. (Insulin causes fat synthesis and storage as well as generalized inflammation) |
