I'm 47 and this is the first time I have ever really tried to lose weight. Last month my MIL wanted me to join a "biggest loser" type of club that lasts 12 weeks. Sofar it has been very motivating for me. I weighed about 130 lbs. in high school and have gradually gained weight to the point that I was tipping the scales at 203 last month. Sofar I am down to 192 lbs. My goal is to lose 50 lbs. and I'm trying to lose an average of 2 pounds a week. I hope this is a realistic goal. I'm about 5'6". I've been exercising on the treadmill and am up to doing about 3.5 miles a day. Also doing some freeweights and protein shakes after workouts. I've virtually cut out sweets, breads, butter, and carb-type foods (carb addict here). I'm just hoping I can stay the course. I keep telling myself I didn't gain it overnight, ect. I would enjoy being a part of this site and any advice you can share with me would be great. Thanks, Laurie

P.S. some things I"ve learned since I started this weight lose adventure,
I like exercising, well I don't enjoy it but I like the way my body feels now that I'm doing it. I didn't realize how crappy and tired I felt before.
I need to do this for my health and I need to make this a lifestyle change.
I don't really miss all the crappy food I was eating as much as I though I would.

Welcome Laurie!! 2lbs a week is very doable and a great rate to shoot for! If you haven't seen our tips topic, you might want to check it out! http://www.obesitydiscussion.com/for...eres-3689.html
You are doing so many right things at the moment, that I'd keep it up for a month or so, see how things are going, and reevaluate to see if you need to make some more changes to achieve your goals. I wouldn't try to do too much too soon, don't want you getting overwhelmed! At some point in time down the road you may want to consider counting your calories as well.

Be sure to keep us updated as you go!
