Re: Starbucks milk to change from whole milk to 2% milk

It was for cost cutting reasons that they made the change, not health reasons. However, I think it was a good thing anyway. Before Starbucks advertised the switch to 2% milk, many non-regulars didn't realize that if you didn't specify, you were getting whole milk in your latte. (Whole milk being homogenized, if anyone isn't clear on that.) Non-fat has always been available upon request, as is soy milk (which is all I can drink.)

Oh, and for the person who made the comment on the frappuccinos... the milk switch has no effect on them at all, as they are made with a pre-made base. The cream base ones have always been made with non-fat milk with a powder which contains sugar, powdered milk, and other fun ingredients. The coffee based ones are mixed with water only. The only dairy in those ones comes from the tetrapacks, which also contains coffee flavour/sugar, etc. An instant coffee powder is added to those ones as well.

Some random Starbucks nutritional facts:

By asking for no whipped cream, you are saving anywhere from 8-12 grams of fat.

1 pump of syrup contains 35 calories. A tall vanilla latte comes with three pumps of vanilla. That is 105 calories of syrup alone. A grande (4 pumps) is 140 calories of syrup.

A single shot of espresso contains 5 calories.

The lemonade in the passion, green, and black tea lemonade is aboslutely loaded with sugar. If you get these drinks unsweetened, you're not really doing yourself much good as you're still getting the sugar from the lemonade. Get an iced tea without the lemonade instead, and just get 1 or 2 pumps of the syrup.

Sugar-Free syrups still have calories!!!!!! 1 pump has 10 calories, as opposed to 35 calories in a pump of regular syrup.
