| Re: easy way to boost your activity level I have cut out this posting on easy ways to increase exercise and taped it to my bulletin board! Such little steps leading to bigger steps. One thing I would add is to take up a new sport, such as softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball...swimming, water polo, rowing, synchonized swimming. Even if you've never played sports before, there are groups and organizations that offer lessons and encouragement to new participants. I began playing tennis in my late 20s, then took up soccer in my mid-30s. Not only did I get exercise and lose weight, I met new people who shared my desire to get fit in an enjoyable way. The women I played tennis with met twice a week at a certain time at the local public tennis courts. Making that commitment made it hard to not show up because I knew they were counting on me. Same with my soccer team. Practice, scrimmages, games...it was fun and a great way to get exercise. Now, quite a few years later I belong to a cycling club. Again, we have arranged rides several times a week. I always put these dates down on my calendar. I can avoid walking by myself very easily (too much to do, I'll do it later, I don't want to go by myself), but meeting my cycling mates is too irresistable to miss! So, try a new sport. You'll feel so much better about yourself and your weight will begin to drop off as if by magic! |
