looking for some advice/help

Hi everyone

I am new and this forum seems to be very helpful and not biased to waste money on useless things. I am 6'1 and have stayed at 200 pounds (and a lil chubby) for a long time. I was active by playing basketball during spring and summer and football during winter with my friends. Then I had surgery about 2 years back and since then I have basically stopped playing sports except for basketball (but definitely not as much as I used to). So I have slowly been gaining weight and lost a lil muscle. Now I want to lose some weight since my stomach has expanded and i feel like it's filled with hot air and I'll lift off into the air. Now I am looking to see what I should be eating and what I should stay away from.
