What is the best: several small meals or three big ones?

Usually I am having three bigger meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. But there are many people who say that it is healthier to have several smaller meals during the day. I think that this is not so good for your weight loss because that means snacking more often. What would you say? Which is the best way to eat?
