I am 5'6" 234lbs female and are trying to start an exercise regime. Will start strength training program 3 times a week. and Cardio workout 5 times a week.
After running some calculations, if AND ONLY IF you hold true to that routine, you will want to eat on average 1800 calories a day. If you can pull that off over the long haul you should be able to lose 10lbs a month to get you to your goals.

On weeks where you only exercise a couple times a week, you'll want to drop that down to about 1500 calories a day.

Most people find that it helps to start writing down the calories they consume in a journal....it helps them better monitor their consumption, since most people underestimate drastically the amount of food they consume.
