It's a form of interval training. It can be used in anything from weight lifting (usually lower body) to running. The idea with running is that you go 40 seconds as fast as you can (sprint) and then 20 seconds off (walk), or 20 seconds on (sprint) and 10 seconds off (walk). Follow this ritual for 4 minutes, and you will supposedly see the same fat burning benefits as longer intermediate paced cardio runs, while substantially increasing your anaerobic abilities.
