They say that it is all in my head. In the summer of 2006 I weighed just 150, but I was starving myself to death. I hurt my back at work, and have five herniated disc. I also have carpel tunnel in both of my hands. I have had four surgeries so far to correct my problems, with more possibly in the future. Since I hurt my back, I cannot do the things I used to do, thus the tremendous weight gain. I feel like I am at the end of my rope. If I dont find help soon I will pop. I would just love to hear from someone who is going through some of the same things. I dont understand why I find such comfort in food, and then afterward hate myself. What is the first step in getting help? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!
Hi Welcome to the boards!

I am real sorry to hear that your having so many problems I know first had how much it sucks.

First off this is the hardest part for people in our postion. You have to understand that your going to feel hungry most of the time to start with. What you need to do is find the key. Its a lot more complecated then just following the numbers like for other healthy people that can get up and move and do things. Another important thing to really get in your head is this is a new way of life. Not a diet. It took me a while to get it figured out,to start with I started at around 427 or so lbs. I had the gastric rny sugery back in 1999. And I went down to around 270 by that time I could eat almost anything so I started eating whatever I wanted and whenever I felt hungry, Big mistake I climbed back up to 330lbs in not time flat.

For myself my body cant handle carbs and lose weight so carbs for me are very very limited. Rarely if ever do I eat potatos, rice, pasta and I never eat regular bread.

We dont have a lot of money either so I have to watch what I buy and wait for sales to stock up on things. But here is an example of a days food for me.
I dont count calories because the numbers dont match with what everyone thinks I should have. But I do pay close attention to measuring and weighing my food.

Breakfast is either 1 peice of low carb whole grain bread and 1 tbs crunchy peanut butter. or 1 packet of instant oatmeal.

Lunch most of the time is 1/2 cup cottage cheese and a 1/2 cup of fruit

Dinner is about 3 oz of meat ( mostly chicken breats or lean steak ) and about 1/2 to 2/3 cup of vegetables ( I stay away from corn and peas)

if I feel like I just have to have something inbetween my meals I always have on hand hard boiled eggs, light string cheese, almonds or peanuts.

And usally before bed I have a small 40 cal yogurt I think its Dannon's lite and fit.

but thats about it.

With the foods I do snack on I limit myself to one serving.
One other thing I do is I am always drinking something Mostly water and coffee. And I also take 2 multivitamins every day. One in the morning and one at night.

Now this may not work for you but this is what I have to do to lose. And even with this I get stuck for long periods now. So when that happens I up my food intake for a week and then go back.

But like I said before you have to find your key. I hope this helps some. Its also gets really hard sometimes because I know that I will never look the way I want to look because I cant exersize and build muscle. All I can do is walk about 3/4 of a mile and even that I cant do everyday and now that its cold I had to stop altogether the pain just gets to much to be out in the cold. You can get past those times by remembering that its not so important on how fit you look but how healthy you feel and understanding that every lb gone means less everyday all the time pain.
