As an aside, I think people get far too technical in their caloric calculations than need be. I like to follow the KISS mentality. Don't muddy the waters unless need be.
With that in mind, instead of figuring out what every little thing you do burns, calorically speaking, simply pick a set caloric intake and track your progress. If things aren't going as planned, make some minor changes until things start moving in the direction you had hoped.
In general, 14-16 calories per pound can be considered maintenance for someone who is active in exercise. If you are only walking right now, your maintenance may be a bit lower. I'd start at 10 calories per pound and go from there.
And by tracking progress, IME, tracking weight, measurements, and pictures is best for most. |
