Childhood Obesity and Sleep

An Austrailan study by the University of Adelande of roughly 1000 kids showed that our little boys aren't getting as much sleep as our little girls and this is causing weight gain.

Boys from ages five to 10 spend less time sleeping than girls even though they went to bed at the same time. The boys were just getting up earlier. Data collected from parents at over 20 schools confirmed this decrease in sleep caused the boys to gain weight. They hypothesized that either the kids were to exhausted for physical activity or had more time to consume food. In addition, as can been seen in adults, a lack of sleep affects leptin and ghrelin production in the stomach which assist in weight loss.

But don't make them oversleep! Oversleeping can cause weight gain as well, so shoot for that 8 hour mark!
